Rams Score Early, Shutout Cougars 3-0

Box Score

Framingham, Mass. – Host Framingham State scored three goals in the first 13 minutes of action and never looked back, taking a 3-0 win over Clark University in non-league women's soccer action on Saturday morning at Maple Street Field.

The win for the Rams gives alum Kristina Kern her first collegiate coaching victory. Kern, who starred for FSU from 1998-02 and is a member of the University's athletic Hall of Fame, was appointed head coach in August.

Clark, meanwhile, playing under a new head coach and alum of their University as well in Brienne Smith, slips to 0-3.

Things started off in fine fashion for the Rams as Isabella DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) found the back of the net at the 3:18 mark, giving her five career goals against the Cougars – including a hat trick in 2011.

Framingham State wasted little time getting on the board again, this time off of a corner as Marissa Miele (Hudson, Mass.) notched her third career marker at exactly 11:00.

Two minutes later, DeSouza slotted a pass to Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) who recorded the third and final goal.

FSU held a 23-7 edge in overall shots and a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) had another excellent performance in net for the Cougars, turning back 13 shots – 11 of which came in the final 45 minutes.

Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout.

Clark is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Roger Williams for a 4:00 p.m. start. The Rams won't play again until Wednesday when they visit Wheelock College for a rare 8:00 p.m. start.
