Worcester, Mass. – Both Melissa Orzechowski (Windsor, Conn.) and Breanna Tucker (Temecula, Calif.) each had multiple top-five finishes leading the Clark University women's swimming and diving team to a fourth place finish at the Worcester City Championships at Holy Cross' Hart Center Pool over the weekend.
Orzechowski turned in a second place effort in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 18:14.51, a little more than ten seconds behind event winner, Maeve Westover of Holy Cross (18:04.00). She also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle, churning out a 5:17.87 time a mere second behind the victorious Westover.
She then wrapped up her weekend's performance with a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.01 – good enough for a top five spot on the all-time Clark list.
Tucker, meanwhile, seems to be rounding into form in advance of next month's NEWMAC Championships. She finished second in the 1-meter diving event (363.60) behind event winner and league rival Veronica Nikolaki of WPI (455.92).
The scenario was the same in the 3-meter, where Nikolaki (444.81) edged not only Tucker (393.44) but Leah Guliasi (San Rafael, Calif.) who finished fourth (296.85).
Clark will return to the pool on Saturday with a home meet against Coast Guard.
