For the Cougars, meanwhile, they see their 2015 that began with a 2-1 start, wind up at 5-12 overall.
Smith wasted little time getting on the board as Hamilton set up Mariah Ollive (Milton, Vt.) just 6:15 into the contest.
That lead doubled a little more than five minutes later when Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass.) rattled the back of the cage with help from Casey Rau (Pottstown, Pa.).
Smith moved ahead 3-0 moments into the second period as Ollive connected with Carloine Labriola (Westbrook, Conn.) for her second tally of the year at 38:04.
Hamilton then recorded a pair of unassisted markers – her eighth and ninth of the season – a little more than six minute apart to push the Pioneer advantage to 5-0.
The Scarlet and White avoided the shutout when Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) registered her team-leading 13th goal with a little more than 15 minutes left to play.
Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y.) only need to made two saves to improve to 9-5 in the cage for Smith, while Clark senior netminder Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) recorded a pair of stops of her own before giving way to Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) who turned aside six shots.
