Worcester, Mass. – Led by sophomore Melissa Orzechowski (Windsor, Conn.) and her school record performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle the Clark University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up their stay at the 2015 New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships with a flourish.
The Cougars finished the four day event in ninth place overall with 297 points. MIT won their fifth straight conference title with a 1,278 point total.
Orzechowski shattered the school mark set by Mollie Kleyboecker in 2012 with her second-place showing in a time of 17:18.57, earning second-team all-conference accolades in the process.
Joining Orzechowski on the podium was senior captain Lydia Berry (Kennebunk, Maine) who churned out a seventh place showing in a time of 18:21.03.
Clark's 400-yard freestyle relay foursome of Orzechowski, Liz Barker (Augusta, Maine), Karina Urquhart (Sanford, Maine) and Kelsey Clary (Cambridge, Mass.) clocked an eighth place finish in a time of 3:43.51, just a few seconds off of the school record set in 2010.
