Box Score Winter Haven, Fla. – Saint Vincent's College erased a five-run deficit with an eight-run eighth inning, rallying to stun Clark University, 12-9, in non-league baseball action on Friday afternoon at Chain O'Lakes Stadium.
The loss for the Scarlet and White spoiled the second strong performance on the mound by Luke Crocker (Stafford, Vt.). He went seven innings, scattering 11 hits while allowing just one earned run and striking out six.
For the Bearcats, meanwhile, they banged out 19 hits – a total that covered up their five errors in the field.
Both teams pushed three runs across in the first with Clark's big blow coming off the bat of David Eschen (New York, N.Y.), who drove in a pair with a single to left.
Later, the game was tied at 4-4 when the Cougars took the lead in the sixth. RBI singles by Zach Richall (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Eschen along with a pair of unearned runs gave the Scarlet and White an 8-4 edge – a lead that went to 9-4 in the seventh on another unearned run.
Saint Vincent began its amazing eighth inning rally with a two-run homerun by Eddie Kilkeary. Later, Luke Fox tripled down the left field line, scoring two more and Kilkeary came up again in the inning, driving in two more with a single to center.
Clark freshmen Mikey Thomson (Northampton, Mass.) and Teddy Downing (Cambridge, Mass.) each had two hits, while Eschen had two hits to go along with three RBI.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday as they complete their stay in Florida with a doubleheader against King's College. First pitch is slated for 9:00 a.m.
