Box Score Babson Park, Mass.—Sophomores Adam Chochrek (Foxboro, Mass.) and Tyler Hutchinson (Greene, Maine) each drove in three runs, and visiting Clark University scored eight runs over the final three innings to rally past Babson College, 10-4, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Govoni Field.
With the win, Clark is now 8-11 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while Babson, which has dropped four straight games, falls to 11-13 overall and 7-6 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Dillon Gonzalez (Beverly, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Beavers. Classmate Sean MacPhee (Framingham, Mass.) added an RBI double, and junior George Crowley (Watertown, Mass.) reached base three times and drove in a run.
Hutchinson went 3-for-4, and Chochrek added a pair of hits for the Cougars. Juniors Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.) and Zach Richall (Tyngsboro, Mass.) both contributed two hits, and seniors Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) and David Eschen (New York, N.Y.) both scored twice and drove in one run apiece.
Clark took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Eschen with two outs in the first, and extended its lead on a two-out base hit by Hutchinson in the fourth inning.
The Green and White responded by scoring three times with two outs in the bottom of the frame to take its first lead. Gonzalez came home on an error, Crowley followed with a single to plate sophomore Owen Shea (Northborough, Mass.), and MacPhee drove in Crowley with a double to center to make it 3-2.
Gonzalez pushed the Beavers' lead to 4-2 with a two-out double to right center, but the Cougars tied the game with a pair of runs in the seventh. First-year Teddy Downing (Cambridge, Mass.) walked and came around to score on a three-base error. Chochrek then drove in Lima with a single to second to make it 4-4.
Babson left a pair of runners on base in the seventh, and the Cougars scored four times with two outs to take the lead for good in the top of the eighth. Eglow, who led off with a single, scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball, Lima made it a two-run game with an RBI double down the left field line, and Chochrek smacked a two-run single to right center to push the lead to 8-4.
Clark added to its advantage in the ninth as Hutchinson recorded a two-out, two-run single up the middle for the final margin.
Junior Jack Kenney (Saco, Maine) earned his first win of the season allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out two and walking three over seven innings. Senior Luke Crocker (Stafford, Vt.) and junior Brett O'Keefe (Brighton, Mass.) each worked an inning out of the bullpen to preserve the victory.
Sophomore Ken Rottuno (East Islip, N.Y.) suffered his first loss of the year for the Beavers after giving up two runs on two hits in an inning of work. First-year Brett Ender (Skillman, N.J.) got the start and lasted 6.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. as Babson hosts Wentworth, while Clark visits MIT.
