Box Score Worcester, Mass. – In his final collegiate at-bat, Dennis Glynn (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth, sending himself and the other seniors of the Clark University baseball team out a winner, with a 6-5 win over Elms College on Tuesday afternoon at Granger Field.
With the win, the Cougars wrap up their 2015 campaign with a 13-17 overall record, while the Blazers see their ledger level off at 15-15.
Elms took a 1-0 lead in the first off of Scarlet and White hurler Luke Crocker (Stafford, Vt.), when Tim Gelzinis (North Dighton, Mass.) doubled and then scored on Michael Bombard's (Chicopee, Mass.) two-out single.
Clark evened the score in the second when Dan Lima (Manchester, Conn.) drew a bases loaded walk that brought in Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.) who led off the inning with a double to left.
The Blazers moved back ahead with a two-out bases loaded walk of their own issued to Bryan Hungerford (New Preston, Conn.) pushed across Jordan Zima (Berlin, Conn.) who earlier in the inning tapped a one-out single to left.
A few innings later the Cougars found themselves in the lead again, courtesy of a two-out, two-run blast to left from David Eschen (New York, N.Y.), making the score 3-2.
Kyle Bonicki (Waterbury, Conn.) added some insurance in the eighth with a two run single to center that scored Adam Chochrek (Foxboro, Mass.) and Matt Asdornvuttikrai (Winchester, Mass.).
Meanwhile, Crocker, who was making his final appearance on the hill for the Scarlet and White, was finding a groove and retired six straight until the top of the ninth.
After a leadoff single, a wild pitch and line out, a single and a walk loaded the bases for the Blazers and with Crocker at more than 130 pitches his outing was over.
Relievers Joseph Gouveia (Nashua, N.H.) and Brett O'Keefe (Brighton, Mass.) each allowed run scoring singles, including Ben Ross' (Thompson, Conn.) game-tying two run single.
Clark opened the bottom of the ninth with Eglow reaching on an error and then he was moved to second on a Tyler Hutchinson (Greene, Maine) sacrifice. A double by James Conway (Newburyport, Mass.) put runners on second and third with one out. Asdornvuttikrai was intentionally walked to load the bases and Brendan Begley's first pitch to Glynn hit him, forcing in the game-winning run.
Crocker was strong for the Cougars in his final outing, going 8.1 innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out five.
Both Asdornvuttikrai and Conway had three hits each while Bonicki wrapped up a stellar freshman campaign with a pair of hits – giving him 35 on the season at a .333 average.
