Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) and Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) each had a hand in both of the goals scored by the Wentworth Institute of Technology and the visiting Leopards opened up their 2015 campaign with a 2-0 win over host Clark University in non-league women's soccer action on Tuesday evening at the Granger Soccer Complex.
The win for Wentworth is their second straight over the Scarlet and White and the Cougars have just one win in their last four meetings with the Leopards.
Clark netminder Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) was her normal self in goal again for the Cougars, turning back 11 shots.
Annon put the Leopards on the board late in the first half when she peppered Paolini with a trio of shots. Paolini was able to deny the first two, but a rebound came to Miller and she found Annon open for the game's first score at 34:33.
The Cougars best scoring chance came in the tenth minute when Haley Connors (Burrillville, R.I.) fired a shot but her attempt sailed wide.
Annon had another fantastic scoring chance early in the second half when she found herself alone at the top of the box but her rising shot was turned aside by a leaping Paolini.
The Leopards second score came off the head of Miller when Annon sent a perfect ball into the box off of a corner kick that Miller headed home through traffic in the 68th minute.
Overall, Wentworth outshot the host Cougars 18-7 and each team had three corner kicks.
The Leopards' trio of goalkeepers – Christine Fleming (Braintree, Mass.), Michaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) and Rachael Schaeffer (Lumberton, N.J.) didn't need to stop a shot in order to collect the win.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday with Wentworth visiting New England College and the Cougars travel to Nichols.
