Golden Bears Blank Cougars, 3-0

Springfield, Mass. – Host Western New England saw five different players register at least one point and the Golden Bears remained undefeated as they topped Clark University, 3-0, in non-league field hockey action this afternoon.

The win for WNE, pushes their record to 3-0, while the Cougars, who outscored their last two opponents, 17-3, sees its ledger even out at 2-2.

Lauren Palmateer (Coxsackie, N.Y.) put the hosts ahead early, banging home her second marker of the season just 9:18 in the contest.

A little more than nine minutes later, Michelle Carson (Hackettstown, N.J.) connected with Allison Jackson (Mahopac, N.Y.) for Jackson's third goal of the season, doubling the Golden Bear lead.

Things stayed that way until midway through the second half when Jen Catuccio (Southbury, Conn.) took a feed from Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.) to cap the scoring at 49:47.

Western New England ended ahead on the statistics tally sheet as well, leading in overall shots, 15-9 and penalty corners, 11-4.

Clark netminder Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) turned aside ten shots in defeat, while Golden Bear backstop Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) made three saves to notch her first career shutout.

The Cougars return to the field on Tuesday when they travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a 7:00 p.m. start against the Corsairs.
