Anderson Sisters Help Drop Cougars In 2OT

Box Score

Dartmouth, Mass. – In one of the longest games in recent memory for Clark University, the visiting Cougars were done in by a goal in the 95th minute by Erin Kish and host UMass-Dartmouth escaped with a 3-2 double overtime win over the Scarlet and White at Kressy Field.

The Corsairs held decisive advantages in shots (30-9) and penalty corners (21-3) to win for the third consecutive contest and improve to 4-1. The Cougars dip below the .500 mark on the season with the loss, falling to 2-3.

UMass Dartmouth utilized its penalty corner opportunities to spark its ultimate offensive attack. Kish inserted a penalty from the left flank to senior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.), who slipped a pass to her sister, Ciara Anderson (Medway, Mass.). Kish crashed the cage from the left flank and redirected Anderson's attempt into the far, lower right corner to send the hometown crowd into a frenzy.

The second extra session was a wild affair, with each team having numerous opportunities to walk away victorious. Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) preserved the tie with three acrobatic stops the period's opening 90 seconds – two of them off the stick of Haley Mahan (Bedford, N.H.).

Clark netminder Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) was under constant pressure throughout the contest, especially in the second extra frame with five of her 12 stops being registered.

Kish produced her second multi-goal game of the season to power the UMass Dartmouth attack. Ciara Anderson was credited with two assists, while senior Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) notched her first marker of the campaign.

Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) was responsible for both of the Cougars' tallies, including the final equalizer 32 seconds after the Corsairs had regained their advantage. Junior Olivia Cotton (Northampton, Mass.) earned helpers on both of Clark's goals.

After a scoreless opening 35 minutes, UMass Dartmouth finally broke through just two minutes, 34 seconds into the second half. Following a penalty corner, Kish bunted Anderson's offering into the back of the net.

The Cougars generated their first scoring opportunity of the contest in the 54th minute, when the visitors earned a penalty corner. After the restart, Clark effectively shifted the rush through the circle, resulting in a scramble along the right post. Barksdale was able to jam home the Cougars' first attempt on the night.

Clark faces a stiff test on Saturday, when they have their league opening match against Babson College at 12:00 p.m.
