Worcester, Mass. – Coast Guard swept through the three doubles matches and the visiting Bears secured a first-round bye with an 8-1 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Senior Day at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The win for the Bears sends their record to 10-6, while the Cougars wrap up the 2016 campaign at 6-14 overall during a rebuilding year after four straight trips to the conference tournament (2012-15).
Before the match, head coach Mickey Cahoon and the rest of the program honored their lone senior Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) who wrapped up his four-year career for the Cougars this afternoon. Pinoargote was a part of three teams that advanced to the league tournament and individually won 26 singles matches and 18 more in doubles action.
Today, however, the Bears proved to be too much, taking all three double matches by the same 8-4 score.
Ahead 3-0, Coast Guard stepped on the gas and won five of the six matches in straight sets.
The Cougars lone win came at No. 6 where Jimmy Keogh (Worcester, Mass.) topped Adrian Chau, 4-6, 6-3 and finally 10-7.
