The Lead: It was a defensive battle as the Clark University Cougars and Mount Holyoke College Lyon's posted a 0-0 double-overtime draw in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The opening half saw the Cougars post the best opportunity as sophomore midfielder Katie Barber (East Hampton, Conn.) unleashed a shot that clipped the crossbar. As the ball redirected straight down, Lyons keeper Amanada Manaster (Beverly Hills, Calif.) was able to cover it up and keep the scoreboard clean.

-In the second half, Manaster continued to hold strong in the MHC net, including critical saves off shots from first years Taylor Barbieri (Glatonbury, Conn.) and Danielle Black (Middleboro, Mass.).

-The homestanding Lyons saw their best chance come in the opening of the overtime period as senior Sara Sanaú Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain) navigated into the box and fired a hard shot on sophomore goalie Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.), who was able to make the quick save.

-Clark nearly capitalized in the second overtime as junior Macy Golman (Dallas, Texas) hammered a bulleted shot toward the left corner of the net. Manaster was able to make a diving save to punch the ball out.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Cougars owned a 7-0 shot advantage through the final stanza, but Manaster held strong with a 17-save effort on the evening, including five in the first, seven in the second, two in the first overtime and three over the final 10 minutes.

-Christy paced the Cougars in goal, recording two stops in the draw. For the game, the Cougars owned a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
