The Lead: The Cougars of Clark University and the Pride of Springfield College battled for 90 minutes on Tuesday night at Brock-Affleck Field in Springfield, Mass. The second half, which saw an offensive outburst in the form of each of the nights six goals, saw Springfield score three times in a ten minute span to pull away with the hard fought 4-2 victory. Senior, Mikaela Coady (Middletown, Conn) started the scoring for the Pride in the 2nd half. Senior, Emma Deneault (Holden, Mass) got the Cougars on the board shortly thereafter with a strike assisted by junior, Macy Golman (Dallas, Texas).
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Pride struck first ten minutes into the second half with a goal from senior Mikaela Coady, assisted by senior, Monique Marcelino (Farmington, Conn.)
-The Cougars landed a strike twelve minutes later, as Deneault headed home a corner kick off the foot of Golman. With 23 minutes to play, the game was tied 1-1.
-The Pride then scored three goals over the next ten minutes on shots capitalized by sophomore Meghan Sastram (Oxford, Conn.) and twice by sophomore Gabrielle Fernandes (North Smithfield, R.I.)
-The Cougars were able to get a late tally in the 88th minute from junior Eliza Meltzer (Framingham, Mass.) but Clark's scoring ended there and it was the Pride who took the ultimate 4-2 victory
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-The Pride outshot the Cougars 20-10, with the Pride getting 11 shots on goal to the Cougars six shots on goal.
-The Cougars held the advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
-Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.) made an impressive seven saves in net for the Cougars while Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) made four saves for the visitors.
