-The Lead: The Clark University women's soccer team had an outstanding offensive showing of 36 total shots to earn them a 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent Fitchburg State on Thursday evening. Freshman Janiah Lambert (Piscataway, N.J.) was a large contributer in the victory as she assisted on all three goals for the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The first 45 minutes of play were scoreless for both teams, but the Cougars definitely had the offensive momentum the entire first half as they outshot the Falcons 17 to zero.

-Clark threatened late in the first half as sophomore midfielder Sara Conroy (Clifton Park, N.Y,) and junior forward Alex Pariseau (Millbury, Mass.) fired back-to-back shots on frame, but Falcon keeper Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) turned aside both shots as the two teams entered the break with the score 0-0.

-Clark's first goal came ten minutes into the second half as Lambert found sophomore Bailey Glenn (Middleboro, Mass.) who was able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity by firing the ball through the right side of Hemmings for the 1-0 lead.

-In the 63rd minute of play Lambert saw the field again and found freshman Inonge Kaloustian (Bowie, Md.) who pushed the ball to the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

-The Cougars added an insurance goal 10 minutes later as Lambert found her classmate Abby Souza (Hope, R.I.) who tallied her first collegiate goal to earn Clark the ultimate 3-0 victory.

QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH BRIE SMITH

"I think the story of the game was minutes off the bench tonight. Everyone contributed, but I think the greatest impact came from those who came in off the bench and really raised the level of play. Having depth at every position gives us a lot of options to shake things up when they just are not going our way. It was a slow start but we were happy to find our flow in the second half. Overall, it was a great team win!"
