Women's Soccer Defeats NEWMAC Defending Champion WPI

WORCESTER – Clark junior Alex Pariseau (Millbury, MA) was the offensive difference as the Cougars blanked WPI, 1-0, in the NEWMAC Women's Soccer opener for both teams. Saturday in Alumni Stadium.  

Pariseau deposited a cross from classmate Megan Marocco (Swampscott, MA) late in the 15th minute. Despite the increased pressure by WPI in the second half, neither team scored for the 1-0 final. Clark (5-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) had four different student-athletes take a shot on-goal with WPI junior backstop Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT) stopping three.

The Engineers (4-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) also had four different student-athletes with a chance to even it up as sophomore staring goalkeeper Alison Carroll (Douglas, MA) made one stop and classmate Juliana Christy (Plainville, CT) made two in the final 24-plus minutes. Freshman Sarah Berube (Wilmington, MA) cleared a bid from senior Karina Larson (Storrs, CT) off the line for a team save.

In all, WPI held the 8-6 advantage in overall shots while the Clark was awarded six of the eight corner kicks in the contest.

The Engineers host Wentworth Wednesday at 7pm and the Cougars head to Southern Vermont Tuesday for a 4pm start.
