Volleyball Drops to Beavers and Wildcats at Home Trimatch

-The Lead: The Clark University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a trimatch with the Beavers of Babson College and the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University (JWU) on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars fell to Babson 3-1 in a NEWMAC contest in their first match of the day before dropping to JWU, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Babson 3, Clark 1

-Babson took match one by set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 14-25, and 25-15.

-Sophomore Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) led the offense for Babson with 13 kills to go along with two blocks. Junior Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) posted a game high 41 assists while senior Abby Beecher (Pittsford, N.Y.) led the way with 21 digs. First year Samantha Harden (Woodway, Wash.) recorded three aces in the victory.

-Junior Corina Picon (Irvington, N.Y.) led Clark with 13 kills while senior Ana Patricia Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) chipped in with eight kills and a block. Senior Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) posted a team high 19 digs while freshman Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan) followed her with 15 digs. Freshmen Caitlin Leggett (Durham, N.C.) and Margarita Perez-Maza (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) each tallied aces for the Cougars and Maza added 26 assists.

Game 2: JWU 3, Clark 0

-The Wildcats cruised to a 3-set victory over the Cougars by scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-10.

-First year Elizabeth Elbrecht (Owings, Md.) led JWU with 10 kills, junior Kate Walker (Oakland, Calif.) chipped in with eight kills, sophomore Hannah Dolan (San Clemente, Calif.) tallied seven kills and her classmate Bella Oldham (Irvine, Calif.) and senior Katie Leidhold (Acushnet, Mass.) posted six kills each. Junior Brylee Frank (Palm City, Fla.) posted a game high 37 assists and four service aces. Sophomore Elyssa Nicolas (San Francisco, Caif.) led all players with 23 digs.

-Mercado led Clark with seven kills while Picon and senior Kacey Legare (Chicopee, Mass.) added four kills and Leggett added three. Perez-Maza posted a team high 16 assists. Quiban collected 14 digs and first year Lily Meadows (Bradenton, Fla.) recorded two aces in the setback.

UP NEXT

-Clark hosts Springfield College in NEWMAC action on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m.

-Babson hosts Emerson on the same day in a NEWMAC match-up.

-JWU is out of conference again as they take on another NEWMAC school on Tuesday when they travel to MIT for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
