-Records: Clark (6-1-1, NEWMAC 2-0), Babson (3-4-1, NEWMAC 0-1)

-Location: Babson Park, Mass. (Hartwell-Rogers Field)

-The Lead: Junior Megan Marocco (Swampscott, Mass.) scored in the 89th minute to lift visiting Clark University to a 1-0 win over Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-First-year Jamie Joseph (Cazenovia, N.Y.) took a pass from sophomore Inonge Kaloustian (Bowie, Md.) 30 yards from goal and fed Marocco, who took a touch at the top of the box before hitting a right-footed shot into the upper right corner for her second goal of the year at the 88:35 mark.

-Babson's best scoring chance of the game came less than sixth minutes into the contest. Junior Maggie McCabe (Weston, Mass.) beat Clark keeper, Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.) to a ball at the edge of the box and pushed it around her only to have a Clark defender clear her shot off the goal line. Senior Emma Dineen (Hinsdale, Ill.) was unable to get to the rebound at the back post before the Cougars cleared the ball out of danger.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-First-year Kayla Salmon (Arlington, Va.) finished with three saves for the Beavers while her counterpart, Christy stopped four shots for the Cougars.

-The Beavers finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and attempted five of the games seven corner kicks.

QUOTE FROM MAROCCO

"We played with heart the full 90 minutes and never gave up today. The positive energy from the bench to the field contributed most to our success. Our defense showed up and was able to deny every ball to clinch the shutout. It was a great NEWMAC team win, and we have a very exciting rest of the season ahead of us"

UP NEXT

-Both teams are back in action on Tuesday as Babson hosts Endicott at 4 p.m., while Clark takes on Elms at 7 p.m.
