-The Lead: The Clark University volleyball team fell to the Lyons of Wheaton College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action before picking up a non-conference 3-2 victory over Connecticut College. Both games went five sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
-The Cougars dropped in five sets to the Lyons by scores of 24-26, 15-25, 25-19, 25-14, and 9-15.
-Senior Ana Patricia Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the Cougars with 20 kills and added a service ace. Junior Corina Picon (Irvington, N.Y.) added 11 kills. Senior Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) posted a game high 24 digs while Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, Calif) dished 20 assists. Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas) also chipped in with 18 assists.
-Julia Palomba led Wheaton with 15 kills while Nikita Selivan and Claire Cansler added 10 kills each. Becca Houghton added a game high 48 assists. Cat MacGregor posted a team high 21 digs and Palomba chipped in with 20. Selivan knocked home a game high six aces.
Game Two:
-The Cougars went another five sets in game two of the day and came out with the 3-2 victory. They downed Conn. College by set scored of: 25-23, 25-27, 25-23, 21-25, and 18-16.
-Mercado led all players with 23 kills and she also added a service ace. Quiban posted a game high 18 digs and Webb led all players with 40 assists. Freshman Margarita Perez-Maza (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) added three aces in the victory.
-Emma Hewlin led Conn. College with 17 kills and Grace McGee dished out 39 assists. Jenny Kellog added a team high 16 digs.

-Clark is back in NEWMAC action on Tuesday when they host Emerson College at 7:00 p.m.
