WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 final on the road against no. 19 Babson in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

How it Happened

Junior Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.) had a goal and sophomore Emma Boland (Redding, Conn.) contributed an assist for the Cougars in the NEWMAC setback while junior Katie Crowley (Bolton, Mass.) and sophomore Grace Sawyer (Windham, ME.) split time in the cage with five saves apiece.

Babson gained a 1-0 lead in the final ticks of the first quarter as Lauren Curley worked the ball into the circle before dishing off to Tori Roche who converted the chance inside the back post. The Beavers beat the clock again in the second quarter as Curley made it 2-0 at the 29:59 mark.

Clark earned three penalty corners over the first seven minutes of the third quarter, halving the deficit 2-1 when Zappala recorded her second marker of the year with a shot from the top of the arc. Zappala had a chance to tie the contest late in the period following a short-corner, but Beavers' goalkeeper Cassidy Riley came up big for the host to preserve the slim advantage.

Babson tacked on an insurance marker with just 11:54 remaining in regulation as Curley redirected a centering pass off the stick of Roche for the 3-1 final score.
