Cougars Stifle Elms College, 3-0

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Emma Tziachris (Cumberland, R.I.) delivered the eventual game-winning goal in the 54th minute of action while sophomore netminder Morgan Small (Quakertown, PA.) earned herself a clean sheet between the pipes as Clark University rose to a 3-0 non-conference victory at home against Elms College.

The Basics

Score: Cougars 3, Blazers 0

Records: Clark University (5-3) | Elms College (6-3-1)

How it Happened

The Cougars were aggressive offensively in the opening half of action as the team managed to put seven shots toward frame during the first 45 minutes. But Clark University was unable to nab the go-ahead goal in that time, missing the target on six chances while Elms goalkeeper Rebecca Molin turned aside the lone shot on net.

After the halftime break, however, Clark University honed in while on the attacking side of the pitch, breaking through in the 54th minute as Tziachris received a corner entry-pass from Taylor Barbieri (Glastonbury, Conn.), tucking in the header chance just inside the right post for the game's first goal.

The initial marker kickstarted the Cougars, who found the net two more times before the end of regulation. Nine minutes after the go-ahead score, junior Sarah Berube (Wilmington, Mass.) capitalized on a penalty kick, doubling up the advantage when she ripped her shot to the left of the net and out of the reach of Molin.

With the 2-0 lead already in place, the Cougars struck for the final time in the 74th minute as a finely placed through ball off the foot of Rayna Medeiros (Bristol, R.I.) found Inonge Kaloustian (Prince's George County, MD.) in wide-open space, with the junior forward slipping her one-on-one chance with the keeper into the net for the final score.

Clark held a 20-3 advantage in shots throughout the game with Kaloustian and Tziachris sitting atop the team lead with four apiece.

Small improved her season record in net to 5-2 while picking up her fifth shutout of the year in the process. The sophomore recorded two saves in the victory.
