POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Clark University men's tennis fought hard in a 7-2 non-conference setback to Vassar on Sunday, taking points at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 two singles in the loss at the Walker Field House.

The Cougars got things going at No. 2 doubles as junior
Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, Maine) and sophomore
Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, Conn.) suffering an 8-1 loss to Vassar's David Gandham and Adam Krueger. At No. 3 doubles, senior
Jack Han (Bakersfield, Calif.) and first-year
Sam Pomann (Piermont, N.Y.) traded games with Vassar's Matthew Yee and Nicholas Demaria with the Brewers ultimately taking an 8-4 result in the final set for the point.
In the final doubles match, Clark junior
Christian Ruebens (Cheshire, Conn.) and first-year
Dariy Vykhodtsev (Saco, Maine) fought to a thrilling 8-7 win over Vassar's Allen Sokolov and Jeremy Auh. The point of the match came when down 5-6 as Vykhodtsev served an ace down the T to change the momentum of the match and propel Clark to a 7-2 tiebreaker win.
The singles session began with Krueger defeating Schweitzer, 6-2, 6-0 to give the Brewers another point in the match. Next Vykhodtsev dropped a hard-fought, strong serving match to Sokolov at No. 4 singles with 6-2, 6-3 set scores. Vassar locked up the match at No. 1 singles when Gandham defeated Mathieu in 6-1, 6-4 frames, despite Mathieu's second set comeback after being down 4-1.
Vassar added to their score when Auh outlasted Han at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Clark's lone point of the game came at No. 2 singles when Ruebens defeated Yee by 7-6, 6-4 set scores in a match that saw Ruebens' serve and court coverage come alive. Vassar wrapped up the day when Mihaljo Ivanovic defeated senior Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.) in a 6-2, 6-0 score.
