How it Happened

Davern finished 10-of-18 from the floor while logging nine rebounds in the NEWMAC setback. With his 24 points on the day, Davern becomes the 29th in men's basketball program history, and second this season for the Cougars, to reach the 1,000-career point mark, doing so in 69 games played so far his career.

Junior Biko Gayman (Fort Pierce, Fla.) turned in 14 points for the Cougars while co-captain Charles Stevens (Bronx, N.Y.) amassed 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting to round out the double-figure scorers for the team.

For Babson, Jack Coolahan registered a game-high 25 points while knocking down 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and four steals on the defensive end. Crew Ainge nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds while Andrew Kirkpatrick (18 points), Andrew Jaworski (15) and Colin Bradanese (11) rounded out the Beavers in double-figures.

The teams exchanged three-pointers to get going with Stevens hitting the first for a 3-0 Clark lead before Coolahan responded with one of his own. The back-and-forth continued with Zackary Mittelstadt (Wilton, Maine) making it a 10-8 deficit with a triple at the 15:32 mark. Babson gained separation from there with Kirkpatrick's triple making it a 15-8 lead.

With just under ten minutes to go in the half, the Cougars offense clicked with a 7-2 run, started with a lay-in from Davern at the 9:51 mark, helping to trim the gap to 21-19. But the Beavers responded with Kirkpatrick hitting on two straight three-pointers to trigger a 30-12 scoring drive lasting the remainder of the frame for a 51-31 halftime lead for the host.

Davern came on strong for the Cougars to start the second half with the forward cashing a three-pointer on the first shot attempt, scoring seven in a row for the team. With 15:01 to go, the junior officially etched his name into the 1,000-point club, connecting on a lay-up to become the 29th member in the program's history.

The Cougars held on to the momentum, using the career milestone from Davern to fuel an 8-2 scoring run, which also saw Stevens chip in four points over the stretch. Clark was able to put together another scoring run later in the half with a three-pointer from first-year Joshua Schibi (Burlington, Conn.) capping off a ten-point unanswered run with 3:53 remaining.

Babson was able to stay in front throughout the final minutes with sophomore guard Beau Smith scoring seven points off the bench en route to the 105-70 final score.

The Cougars were 28-of-60 shooting for the game (46.7%) and connected on 5-of-21 from three-point range while the Beavers finished 40-of-74 from the floor (54.1%) and 13-of-26 from the triple. The Beavers held a 38-29 advantage on the glass.
