How it Happened

Favaloro picked up her ninth double-double of the season, posting her third 20-point game of the year in the process to lead three starters in double-figures for the Cougars. Sophomore Hallie Johnson (Princeton, Mass.) aided the offense with 13 points while corralling 11 rebounds for a double-double of her own.

Sophomore Emily Sifferlen (North Andover, Mass.) rounded out the starters in double-figures with 11 points on 3-of-6 from the field while Ginny Benbow (Durham, Conn.) led the Cougars in bench scoring with 12 points and a pair of steals. Cam Richey (Upton, Mass.) impacted the defensive end, swiping a team-high four steals to go with six assists and seven points.

For Babson, senior Emily Bonifacic tallied a game-high 33 points while picking up the double-double with 11 rebounds to go with a game-high five steals. Junior Nicole Hiller and first-year Jade Perry each got into the double-figure scoring range, posting 16 and 14 points respectively.

Clark opened up the game with six unanswered points as Johnson knocked down a triple before Sifferlen converted on a three-point play. The Cougars maintained the advantage with 5:37 left in the session as a perfectly executed give-and-go between Julia Beebe (Andover, Conn.) and Favaloro provided a 10-5 lead. Babson found its rhythm in the remaining time with Nicole Hiller's three-pointer sparking an 11-6 scoring run for the Beavers to tie the game at 16-16 at the end of the stanza.

In the second quarter, the teams continued to battle, starting with three consecutive points from Bonifacic before a lay-up from Benbow and trey by Richey swung a 21-19 margin over to the host. With the score knotted 21-21, the Cougars used a quick four-point spurt to jump ahead, starting on a mindful play from Johnson who rebounded a blocked shot to lay-in an uncontested bucket inside the paint. Favaloro followed-up with a lay-up on the right block, but the Beavers responded with four unanswered points to tie the game.

The Cougars went to the locker room with a slim lead as another tough lay-up from Favaloro with 45 seconds gave the host a 30-28 advantage after two quarters.

Johnson got the Cougars going in the second half, knocking down her second triple of the game immediately out of the break. Babson gathered momentum with Bonifacic providing six points to fuel an 11-0 run and take a 39-33 lead with 5:21 left in the third.

A lay-up from Samantha Smith gave the Beavers their largest lead of the game, 48-37, at the 2:42 mark in the quarter. But Benbow got the deficit back to single-digits, connecting on a free throw before cleaning up an offensive rebound for an eight-point gap. Favaloro supplied four points over the final 2:17 in the quarter for a 52-62 gap.

Both teams had their largest scoring totals of the game throughout the fourth quarter with the Beavers holding a 26-18 edge over the ten minutes. The Beavers maintained a ten-point advantage through the entirety of the fourth quarter to earn the 78-64 final score.

The Cougars finished 22-of-68 from the field (32.4%) and knocked down 6-of-23 from beyond the arc (26.1%) while the Beavers were 32-of-77 shooting (41.6%) with a 6-of-19 effort from three-point distance (31.6%).
