CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Clark University men's tennis was downed, 9-0, by #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday evening with the Cougars fighting hard against the top tier opponents in doubles, even nearly picking up a point at No. 1 doubles.

In No. 1 doubles, junior
Christian Ruebens (Cheshire, Conn.) and first-year
Dariy Vykhodtsev (Saco, Maine) played an outstanding match against CMS' Nic Meister and Daniel Park, fighting back from 5-7 deficit to force a tiebreak at 7-7. While they lost the tiebreak 7-3, both players for the Cougars pushed their opponents to the limits. At No. 2 doubles, senior
Jack Han (Bakersfield, Calif.) and sophomore
Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, Conn.) lost 2-8 to Jake Berber and Casey Morris.
Rookie
Matt Lee (Marlboro, Mass.) made his collegiate debut at No. 3 doubles alongside senior captain
Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.) with both putting forth several good winners in their 2-8 loss to Jake Williams and Ian Habbestad.
The Stags hit their stride in singles as they shutout the Cougars in five of the six matches with
Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, Maine), Ruebens, Schweitzer, Han and Hattenbach all falling to top-10 regionally ranked opponents. At No. 4 singles Vykhodtsev fought tough in the first set in a 2-6 setback before being swept in the final set by a 0-6 score by Carroll.
