How it Happened
The Cougars offense finished with nine hits with junior Trevor Ham (North Andover, Mass.) notching a 2-for-3 day at the dish with one RBI in his third start of the season. First-years Benjamin Spencer (New Holland, Pa.) and Randall Safron (Easthampton, Mass.) each picked up their first collegiate hit during the non-conference setback.
Senior Dylan Horn (Sterling, Conn.) moved his hitting streak to six straight games in the contest, picking up one hit in four plate appearances.
The Britons grabbed the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI double from Jordyn Finney providing the game's first run. Albion tacked on three more in its next at-bats as an opposite-field three-run homer off the bat of Riley Stesiak gave the visitors the 5-0 advantage.
After a one-two-three frame from starter Nick Guarino (New Haven, Conn.) in the top of the third, Clark would respond on the scoreboard as two-out singles from Ryan Ruhlin (Portland, Maine) and Chris Radovic (Fairfield, Conn.) and a hit-by-pitch to Colin Porter (Brookfield, Conn.) loaded up the bases. With two outs still, Ham came through, muscling a single through the infield to plate Ruhlin with the team's only run.
Albion remained hot at the plate in the top of the fourth, hammering out five hits to score four runs with the highlight of the inning coming via a two-run double from Justin Charron. The Britons scored twice in the fifth inning and one more time in the sixth to take the 12-1 lead before junior Torsten Sloan Anderson (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) suppressed the bats with 1.2 hitless innings of relief, including a pair of strikeouts.
