Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (2-13, 0-7 NEWMAC) fell to WPI (9-4, 4-2 NEWMAC) by a 3-0 margin on Tuesday night from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Greer McCarty fired the first shot of the match on goal in the second minute that was stopped by Nini Acquista.
- WPI's Lauren Meinhold put a pair of shots on goal in the first quarter that were saved by senior netminder Grace Sawyer.
- The Engineers took the lead in the 13th minute with a goal off a rebound from Abigail Rauch as WPI led 1-0 after one quarter of play,
- McCarty fired another shot on goal that was stopped by Acquista in the 23rd minute and the WPI was able to extend the lead to 2-0 off a converted penalty stroke from Eliza Dutson and the score remained the same at the half.
- The Engineers pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 34th minute when Kelly Makechnie found Dutson for another goal.
- Junior Maire O'Donnell recorded a pair of defensive saves in the 35th minute to keep the score 3-0 and sophomore Rachael Romain nearly added a goal in the 42nd minute that was saved by Acquista as the score remained the same after three quarters of action.
- Sawyer opened the fourth with a pair of nice saves on dangerous chances and stopped three more shots and McCarty fired a shot on target that was saved late in the fourth as WPI recorded a 3-0 victory.
