Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over Wheaton

WORCESTER, Mass.- Clark (10-5, 6-2 NEWMAC) came out victorious against Wheaton (7-6-3, 3-4-2 NEWMAC) on Saturday. After going down 1-0 early, the Cougars ambushed the Lyons with offense late in the first half to take a commanding lead that they would never relinquish. 
 
Prior to the contest, Clark honored 8 seniors, who have contributed 27 wins to the Clark program. The 8 players recognized were Sarah Berube, Carly Bernstein, Deanna D'Innocenzo, Mia Advocate, Haley Berkowitz, Rayna Medeiros, Jamie Joseph, and Morgan Small.

"A beautiful day to celebrate the dedication of five fantastic seniors and three super-seniors. No better way to dedicate a day to them than to score three fantastic goals and get a win."

How it Happened
  • Medeiros took the first shot on goal for Clark in the 5th minute.
  • Wheaton hopped out to an early lead on a goal by Claire Donfield.
  • 20 minutes later the Cougars tied the game up on strike from sophomore Imani Salazar. First-year Isabel Echeverry assisted on the play.
  • The Cougars took the lead late in the first half on a goal by first-year Cassandra Trevino.
  • Trevino scored her second goal of the day for Clark early in the second on a rocket past the Wheaton keeper. Salazar picked up an assist.
  • Late in the game, Medeiros had another shot on goal for the scarlet and white.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark put on an offensive clinic with 16 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
  • Salazar's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season, while her assist was her second of the year.
  • Trevino scored her second and third goals of the season for the Cougars.
  • Echeverry recorded her first collegiate assist in the contest.
What's Next
 
The Cougars take the road Wednesday for a NEWMAC showdown at Springfield. That game begins at 7 p.m. from the Brock-Affleck field at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex.
