Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (13-12, 4-6 NEWMAC) fell to Wheaton (15-10, 3-7 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day from the Kneller Gymnasium by a 3-2 margin.
Prior to the match, seniors Sophia Torino, Marimo Oka, Bailey Vogel, and Margarita Perez Maza were honored for their contributions to the program.
Clark fell 25-19 in the first set, won the second 25-16, won the third 27-25, and fell 25-22 in the fourth and lost 15-10 in the clinching fifth set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars took an early 10-8 lead thanks to a pair of kills from Perez Maza, and one from sophomores Victoria Pastor and Sheyenne Williams before the Lyons fought back to lead 19-18 despite two more kills from Perez before Wheaton took the first set 25-19.
- Clark led 8-6 early in the second set with kills from sophomores Camille Flurry and Sofia Scherrer del Llano before pushing the lead to 16-12 with two more kills from Scherrer del Llano.
- The Cougars ended the set on a 9-4 run with two more kills from Perez Maza and one from Flurry and Williams to win 25-16 in the second.
- The third set was even at 10-10 after Torino registered two early service aces and four team kills and the Cougars went up 22-19 off a Scherrer del Llano kill and Clark came out on top 27-25 in the third with Flurry recording a kill and a block on the final two points.
- In the fourth, the teams were tied 11-11 led by two kills from Pastor and extended the lead to 15-12 before Wheaton ended the set on a 13-7 run and fell 25-22 in the set.
- The teams went back-and-forth at the beginning of the fifth set and the match was tied 5-5 with two kills from junior Claudia Rivera, but Wheaton came away with a 15-10 win in the final set.
