Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (10-6, 3-3 NEWMAC) to Springfield (11-4, 3-4 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night from Blake Arena.
The Cougars took the first and second set 26-24, fell 17-25 in the third set, and won the last frame 25-23.
How it Happened
- Clark took an early 9-5 lead sparked by three kills from junior Claudia Rivera and extended the lead to 17-14 with three more kills from Rivera and one from senior Margarita Perez Maza.
- After Clark went up 21-17 on a kill from sophomore Victoria Pastor, the match was tied at 24-24 when the Cougars came away with a 26-24 win as a result of two attacking errors.
- The second set was tied 5-5 early with two more kills from Rivera and later in the set the score was 12-14 with another two Rivera kills and the Cougars battled back to within one at 17-18 with kills from senior Bailey Vogel and Perez Maza.
- The scarlet and white tied the score at 19-19 and 23-23 before the Cougars went on a 3-1 run with a service ace from senior Marimo Oka and kills from senior Sophia Torino and sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Llano to win 26-24 again in set two.
- The Cougars fell behind 11-6 in the third set despite three kills from Pastor and ended up falling 25-17 in the frame.
- Clark took an early 9-3 lead in the fourth set as Torino, Rivera, Pastor, and Scherrer del Llano and extended the lead to 17-12 in the set with two kills from Perez Maza.
- The Cougars pushed the advantage to 21-16 later in the frame with another Oka service ace and took the set 25-23 after attacking errors from Springfield ended the contest.
