Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.- Clark University Women's Soccer (7-4-0, 3-1-0 NEWMAC) picked up their third consecutive NEWMAC conference win on Saturday October 9th at Granger Field over the Bears of Coast Guard Academy (2-9-0, (0-5-0 NEWMAC). Cougars were led by juniors Emma Tziachris and Siobhan Lounsbury, and senior Mia Advocate who all registered goals for the Cougars in the win.
Coach Smith's Thoughts
"I thought we played really well today," said head coach Brienne Smith. "We were able to move the ball in all areas the field and create a significant attack. Obviously a huge goal from Emma Tziachris on the free kick was a great way to start the game. We came out strong in the second half and put one away early. I'm proud of the team effort!"
How it Happened
- First-Year Annabella White earned her second start of the season for the Cougars. She registered her first save of the game in the 22nd minute when Coast Guard senior Brielle Pearce took a shot that was collected with ease by White.
- Clark got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Tziachris took a free kick just outside the box and buried it behind the goal in the upper left-hand corner.
- In the 30th minute, Clark broke out to a two-goal lead when graduate student Sarah Berube launched a shot on goal that was bobbled by Coast Guard's keeper, but Lounsbury was in the box to clean up the loose ball and convert the goal.
- 53 minutes into the match, Coast Guard's keeper attempted to clear the ball out of the box, but sophomore Imani Salazar blocked the clearance and Advocate was there to clean up the ball and toe poke it into the net for the Cougar's third goal of the match.
- In the 74th minute, the Bears got on the board when sophomore Chase Merrick finished a cross from Pearce just over the head of the Cougar's White.
- 82 minutes into the match, Clark saw their final shot of the match when senior Jamie Joseph launched a shot on net that was stopped by Coast Guard's keeper.
