Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (2-10, 0-5 NEWMAC) battled with Wheaton (7-5, 3-1 NEWMAC) for over 64 minutes, but fell 1-0 on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Senior Grace Sawyer recorded her first save of the match in the 10th minute and junior Erin Lally fired a pair of shots in the 11th minute that were stopped as the teams traded possession throughout the first period.
- Sawyer registered a save in the 14th minute of action on a penalty stroke attempt from Lindsay Janeczek as the game stayed tied 0-0 after one quarter.
- Both defenses controlled the tempo in the second as the Cougars best chance of the quarter came in the 26th minute as senior Emma Boland earned a penalty corner as the game remained tied at the half.
- Boland fired a shot on goal in the 32nd minute that was saved and Sawyer stopped a shot in the 33rd minute as the offenses picked up the pace.
- Sawyer kept a shot from Sophie Shekarchi out of the goal in the 41st minute as the match remained tied after three.
- The senior netminder continued to keep Clark in the match with four more saves over the first six minutes of the fourth and stopped a crucial penalty stroke attempt in the 52nd minute.
- The Lyons recorded the final two shots of the fourth with one saved by Sawyer and one saved by junior Maire O'Donnell.
- Wheaton netted a game-winning goal in the fifth minute of overtime on a goal from Bridget Healy that was assisted by Lydia Gaudreau.
