Men's Basketball Coasts to 106-89 Victory Over York (N.Y.) on Saturday

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Clark men's basketball team (5-0) extended its winning streak to five games as the Cougars came away with a 106-89 win over York (N.Y.) (1-4) on Saturday afternoon from York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened

  • Sophomore Bruce Saintilus netted five early points and graduate students Tyler Davern and Biko Gayman each hit threes as Clark took an 11-4 lead with 17:13 left in the first half before York tied the game at 11-11 and senior Zackary Mittelstadt and sophomore Mikey O'Brien each hit threes to take a 17-13 advantage with 13:39 in the half.
  • Saintilus scored Clark's next five points and first-year Isaiah Taylor hit a three as Clark pushed the lead to 25-15 and a Gayman layup helped push the lead to 29-16 with 8:33 to go in the first half.
  • Graduate student Matthew Waggett hit a three and Gayman connected on a jumper to put Clark back up by 10 with 6:00 to go, but York pulled to within four of the lead prior to the half as Clark led 42-38.
  • The Cougars opened the second half on a 10-0 run as Taylor added seven points and Davern hit a three-pointer to go up 52-38 and an O'Brien layup helped pushed the lead to as many as 17 at 58-41 with 16:31 left in the game.
  • Both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes before Taylor and Waggett made layups and Davern then buried a three as Clark went up 72-48 with 11:59 remaining.
  • Sophomore Kolby Randolph extended the lead to 25 on a made layup and Davern hit a triple to go up 82-56 with 9:21 to go.
  • Taylor added nine more points and Saintilus netted five more points as the Cougars pulled away from York and won 106-89.
