Women's Basketball Tops Salve Regina 65-56 on Saturday

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Clark women's basketball team (3-3) completed their three-game road trip with a 65-56 win over Salve Regina (1-4) on Saturday afternoon from the Rodgers Recreation Center.  

How it Happened

  • Graduate student Hannah Favaloro and senior Ginny Benbow combined to score Clark's first 11 points as Favaloro connected on a pair of jumpers and a layup and Benbow made two free throws and a three-pointer as the Cougars led 11-5 with 2:38 to go in the first quarter before the Seahawks scored the final six of the frame as the teams were tied 11-11.
  • Senior Hallie Johnson scored five early points in the second to push the lead to five and a Benbow layup later extended the advantage to 21-14 with 5:41 to go in the quarter.
  • After the Seahawks got back within two, Benbow connected on a three and Favaloro made a layup before Salve pulled within one at 30-29 at the half.
  • Sophomore Emma Levesque connected on a three at the beginning of the half and Favaloro added a pair of layups before Johnson made a jumper as Clark opened the half on a 9-0 run and Johnson made another three as the Cougars led 42-31 with 7:32 left in the third.
  • Johnson hit another three and Favaloro added four more points as Clark took a 51-44 lead into the final quarter.
  • Sophomore Mariah Harris hit a jumper and Favaloro scored four more points to start the fourth as Clark led 57-49 with 6:03 remaining before senior Cam Richey made three free throws down the stretch and Favaloro scored again as the Cougars defense held Salve to just 12 fourth quarter points and came away with a 65-56 win.

  • Favaloro recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Johnson added 14 points and six rebounds.
  • Benbow also reached double-digits with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Clark grabbed 55 total rebounds, dished out 13 assists, and recorded 10 steals.

Clark will return home to the Kneller for a non-conference contest against Anna Maria beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
