Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Clark men's basketball team (1-0) opened its 2021-22 campaign with a 102-84 victory over John Jay (0-1) on Saturday afternoon from The Doghouse.
How it Happened
- Clark opened the game with a 12-3 lead led by three-pointers from first-year Isaiah Taylor and senior Zackary Mittelstadt and a pair of buckets from sophomore Bruce Saintilus.
- The Cougars extended the lead to 21-8 with 13:08 to go in the first half after three straight three-pointers from first-year Kyle Jackson and pushed their advantage to 34-14 with five points from senior Gralen Vereen and three points from Taylor and graduate student Matthew Waggett.
- Clark led 41-22 with 5:11 to go in the first half after graduate student Biko Gayman scored three points and the Cougars scored nine more points in the half led by a Vereen three-pointer helped guide them to a 50-34 lead at the half.
- Davern and Taylor combined for the Cougars first nine points over the first 2:12 of the second half to extend the advantage to 59-38 before Clark went on an 11-2 run with three's from Mittelstadt, sophomore Mikey O'Brien and buckets from Jackson and Waggett to go up 70-40 with 15:03 remaining.
- The Cougars got five more points from Davern and a pair of triples from Mittelstadt to extend the lead to 86-50 with 9:38 remaining and senior Joel Artega added five more points as Clark came away with an impressive 102-84 win.
