Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark men's basketball team (10-0) played its first game since the holiday break and came away with a 68-63 win over Gordon (3-4) on Wednesday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium in the first game of the Clark Holiday Tournament.
The 10-game winning streak is the programs longest since 2000-01 when they won 11 straight and the best start since 1985-86 when they won 13 straight to start the year.
How it Happened
- Clark opened the game with an 8-7 advantage led by six points from graduate student Tyler Davern and a layup from first-year Isaiah Taylor before Gordon took a 14-8 lead and at one point led 20-12 with 9:13 to go in the first half.
- Davern then connected on a triple and a jumper and a Taylor three tied the game at 20-20 before three free throws from sophomore Jordan Richard gave Clark a 23-20 lead and extended the run to 11-0.
- Sophomore Bruce Saintilus and Taylor each added five more points as Clark held a 35-32 advantage and a three from sophomore Mikey O'Brien put the Cougars up 38-32 at the half.
- Saintilus and Taylor scored the first four points of the second half and a Davern layup put Clark up 44-37 before Gordon pulled to within one at 44-43 with 13:53 to go.
- Taylor then connected on another triple and five points from graduate student Biko Gayman including a three put the Cougars up 54-48 with 10:02 remaining before a Davern triple pushed the lead to nine.
- Gordon got to within five before Saintilus and Davern each made jumpers while Taylor converted a critical layup to go up 65-58 with 2:38 to go.
- Taylor made three critical free throws down the stretch and the Cougars defense held Gordon to just five points over the final 2:38 to secure a 68-63 win.
Inside the Box Score
- Davern led the team with 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, which was his second double-double of the season.
- Taylor netted 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists, and recorded five steals.
- Saitilus also reached double-figures with 11 points and pulled down seven boards.
- Clark grabbed 44 rebounds, made nine threes, dished out 15 assists, and recorded 15 steals, while forcing 28 turnovers.
