WLAX: Cougars Defeated by Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Clark University women's lacrosse team fell 20-0 on Saturday afternoon as a four-goal performance from Katherine Pittman led the Bears of Coast Guard to victory in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference meeting at Cadet Memorial Field. 

First-year Olivia Harrington (Bedford, Mass.) made her third consecutive start for the Cougars and tallied nine saves in 39:40 minutes of action. Junior Iris Knowles (Clifton, N.J.) nabbed a season-high four ground balls and took two shots on goal while junior Sophia Phelan (Westport, Conn.) and first-year Greer McCarty (White River Junction, Vt.) each tallied two ground balls for Clark. 

In addition to Pittman, Coast Guard was paced offensively by senior Etta Davis (Great Falls, Va.), first-year Maria del Rosario Chan (Piedmont, Calif.), first-year Addy Bass (Redondo Beach, Calif.), and first-year Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, N.Y.) with the group all scoring multiple goals for the Bears. 

The Bears scored ten goals in both halves and took 40 shots against the visiting Cougars. Pittman scored for the Bears nearly two minutes into the affair with the team adding six more goals over the next 15 minutes. Even though Knowles put multiple shots on goal for the Cougars, the Bears opened up a 10-0 lead at the half. 

The second half saw Maddie Connors (Devon, Pa.) take over in net for the Cougars with the sophomore stonewalling five shots in 20:20 minutes of action. Clark first-year Claudia Oakleaf (Westford, Mass.) had a shot on goal late in the second half for the Cougars, but the Bears were able to coast to the 20-0 final score as first-year Sarah Skurat and Mary Ellis Goins each tallied goals for Coast Guard down the stretch.
