Box Score BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (0-1) fell 4-1 in its season opening match against Simmons (1-0) on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Greer McCarty scored the Cougar goal in the third quarter and the goal was the first of her career. Senior goalie Grace Sawyer recorded a game-high four saves.
How it Happened
- Sawyer recorded her first save of the season and of the game in the 10th minute of the first quarter as both teams aimed to score their first goals of the season.
- The Sharks got on the board in the 24th minute on a goal from Sydney Gonyea, but the Cougars came back as senior Kimberlie Asseng nearly found the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot was saved by Emma Sheehan,
- Senior Emma Boland earned the Cougars first penalty corner of the season in the 26th minute as well, but Clark trailed 1-0 at the half.
- Sawyer came out of the half and registered two great saves in the 33rd and 39th minute before the Sharks tacked on another goal to extend its lead.
- After Boland recorded her second penalty corner of the game, McCarty brought Clark back within one of the lead as she netted her first career goal in the 42nd minute.
- The Sharks added two goals in the fourth and came away with a 4-1 win.
What's Next
Clark will play its home opener on Saturday when they welcome Worcester State to Granger Field beginning at noon.
