BRISTOL, R.I. – The Clark University volleyball team (8-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) traveled to Roger Williams for the RWU Invitational and beat Roger Williams (0-5) and lost to Williams (5-0) on Saturday afternoon.

Clark topped Roger Williams in five sets by a 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11 margin and fell in straight sets against Williams.

• The match opened with back-and-forth play as it was 9-9 led by kills from junior Claudia Rivera, sophomore Camille Flurry, sophomore Victoria Pastor, and sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Llano and eventually took a 17-14 advantage with three more kills from Rivera before winning the set 25-19 after two service aces from Rivera.
• The second set started 10-10 led by two more kills from Scherrer del Llano and a kill from sophomore Sheyenne Williams later pushed the lead to 20-16 before an ace from senior Bailey Vogel helped give the Cougars a 25-18 win in the second set.
• The Cougars got out to an early 9-2 lead in the third set with five consecutive kills from Rivera, but Roger Williams responded with a run of their own to tie the set at 18-18 and despite kills from Rivera and Flurry, Roger Williams took the set 25-21.
• After trailing 13-7 early in the fourth set, the Cougars got back to within two at 19-17, but Roger Williams took the fourth set 25-18 despite two more kills from Pastor.
• In the fifth set, Rivera, Pastor, and Scherrer del Llano recorded early kills in a 7-7 tie, but the Cougars pulled through with an 8-4 run as Rivera posted three kills and Pastor with two during that frame to win 15-11.
• Rivera recorded 26 kills and four service aces.
• Pastor totaled 11 kills and Scherrer del Llano recorded eight kills.
• First-year Yvanna Torres registered 45 assists and 11 digs.
• Senior Marimo Oka led the team with 21 digs.
• Clark recorded 55 kills, 51 assists, and 78 digs in the match.

Williams 3, Clark 0

• Clark took an early 5-1 lead in the first set led by kills from Rivera and Flurry and then owned a 12-11 lead after a pair of kills from Scherrer del Llano, but the Ephs ended the first set with a 25-16 win despite another kill from Williams.
• Pastor opened the second set with three kills as Clark led 8-5, but Williams responded with a run of their own to take a 16-11 lead and despite two more kills from Rivera, the Cougars fell 25-17 in the second set.
• The Cougars battled in the third set as the score was 9-8 early sparked by two more Pastor kills, but Williams went up 21-13 before Clark fought back with kills from Scherrer del Llano and senior Margarita Perez Maza to get withing four points before falling 25-19.
• Pastor and Scherrer del Llano tied for the team-lead with six kills.
• Torres dished out 14 assists and nine digs.
• Clark recorded 24 total kills, 23 assists, and 36 digs in the match.

Clark will play again on Tuesday when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
