WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-0) earned its first victory of the season with a thrilling five-set 3-2 win over Worcester State (0-1) on Wednesday night from the John Brissette Court.

How it Happened

• Both teams went back and forth at the beginning of the first set as there were three lead changes before the Cougars pulled away with a 6-2 run to take a 20-14 lead and Clark won the first set led by five kills from sophomore Sofia Scherrer Llano.
• After Clark went up early 10-5 in the second set, the Cougars pulled away with the rest of the set by a 15-5 margin sparked by three kills from Rivera and 15 total kills in the frame.
• The third set was tied at 10-10, 14-14, and 18-18 before Worcester State pulled away with it 25-20 despite 45 total attacks in the set.
• The fourth set went back-and-forth after the Cougars trailed 24-21 and rallied to tie it and 26-26 before the Lancers took the set 28-26 despite 41 total attacks.
• Heading into the fifth set tied, Clark pulled away with a 15-9 win in the set that was capped off by junior Claudia Rivera.

Inside the Box Score

• Rivera led the team with 17 kills in the match.
• Scherrer del Llano was second on the team with 11 kills and led the way with 44 total attacks.
• Senior Sophia Torino led the Cougars with 35 assists.
• Clark tallied 60 total kills and 57 total assists.
