Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (2-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) dropped a conference match by a 2-1 margin against Smith (2-6, 1-1 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- The Cougars offense opened the day aggressive with a shot from graduate student Anna Joyce in the third minute that was saved by Channy Cornell.
- Junior Abbe Cravinho created Clark's best chance of the first quarter in the sixth minute when she fired a shot on goal that was defensively saved by Kaeli Bennett.
- Senior Grace Sawyer recorded her first save of the match in the 10th minute on a shot from Victoria Mellow, but Mellow scored the first goal of the match four minutes later to give Smith a 1-0 lead after one quarter.
- Sawyer registered four critical saves early in the second quarter to keep the score the same and ended the quarter with nine total saves, including a stretch with four saves within a minute as the match remained 1-0 at the half.
- First-year Rebecca Murphy got the Cougars offense going in the third quarter with a shot in the 42nd minute that was saved and then tipped in a goal to tie the score off a pass from sophomore Greer McCarty.
- Sawyer opened the fourth with two more saves, but Grace Moorhead gave Smith the lead in the 51st minute.
- Clark's final shot attempt came in the 54th minute from senior Kimberlie Asseng as the Cougars fell 2-1.
