Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Six different members of Clark women's soccer (4-3-0, 0-1-0 NEWMAC) scored as the Cougars cruised to a 7-0 victory over Fitchburg State (0-6-1) on Monday night from Granger Field. The seven goals were the most in a match Clark since September 1, 2019 when they also scored seven goals against Becker College.
Coach Smith's Thoughts
"I'm really proud of our team's effort tonight," said head coach Brienne Smith following the win. "I was happy to get in a lot of our players tonight who have worked hard in practice and played well in the game. Many of our players played well in this game and we are looking forward to getting back to action on Wednesday against Salve Regina."
How it Happened
- The Cougars offense came out aggressive early as junior Siobhan Lounsbury fired a shot on goal that was saved in the fourth minute and Clark scored the first goal of the night in the fifth minute when junior Emma Tziachris fired a right-footed shot from well outside the box that went in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
- The scarlet and white doubled their lead in the 12th minute when first-year Isabella Ramirez found the back of the net off a nice cross from senior Mia Advocate to go up 2-0.
- First-year Annabella White recorded a save in the 12th minute on a shot from Shannon McCarthy.
- Clark extended the lead to 3-0 in the 18th minute when Advocate beat the Falcon defense and found the back of the goal.
- Graduate student Sarah Berube and senior Haley Berkowitz each fired shots on goal early in the first half that were saved by Dania Politi.
- Sophomore Anika Floeck ended the half with two more shots on target and sophomore Imani Salazar and first-year Ashlee Samuel each created quality chances that were stopped as Clark took a 3-0 lead into the half.
- Junior Emery Letendre recorded her first save of the season and her career in the 51st minute on a shot attempt from Abaigeal Gilman.
- The Cougars extended the lead to 4-0 when first-year Andrea Mortimer found sophomore Anika Floeck found the back of the net on a shot from the right side of the box in the 55th minute.
- Floeck added another goal in the 57th minute when Mortimer found sophomore Julia Dantzler, who found Floeck on the right side and Floeck sent in a great shot to the left corner of the goal to take a 5-0 lead.
- Clark added another goal in the 63rd minute when Mortimer recorded her third assist of the game when she found the foot of first-year Ashlee Samuel to extend the advantage to 6-0.
- Salazar added the seventh goal of the night in the 72nd minute when she found a bouncing ball and put it in the bottom right corner of the net to go up 7-0, which was the final score of the contest.
