Box Score PROVIDENCE, RI – The Clark University volleyball team (2-0) recorded its second win of the season with a 3-1 victory against Johnson & Wales (0-1) on Friday night from the Wildcat Center in the Cougars first game of three in the JWU Invitational. The Cougars won the first, second, and fourth sets of the match.
How it Happened
- Clark got out to an early 12-5 lead in the first set thanks to a pair of kills from sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Llano and a service ace from senior Sophia Torino and ended the frame on a 13-10 run as sophomore Sheyenne Williams and junior Claudia Rivera paced the Cougars with three kills apiece to win set one by a 25-15 margin.
- In the second set, Clark scored seven of the first nine points and again gained a 12-5 advantage before JWU tied the score up at 12-12.
- The teams traded points to bring the score to 20-19 before sophomore Victoria Pastor registered a kill to push the lead to 21-19 and Rivera ended the set with a pair of kills for the final two points of a 25-21 victory in a second frame that saw 12 assists from Torino.
- After dropping the third set 25-18, the Cougars came back in a competitive fourth set that saw three early lead changes before Clark took a 17-13 lead sparked by a service ace and a pair of kills from Pastor.
- JWU then scored the next six points, but Clark fought back with kills from Rivera and Williams to take a 21-20 edge before attacking errors on each side led to a 23-23 stalemate.
- Clark ended the match with a Scherrer del Llano kill and a JWU attacking error to knock off the Wildcats 26-24 in the final set to propel the Cougars to a 3-1 win.
