Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, RI – The Clark University volleyball team (4-0) capped off the JWU Invitational with a pair of wins over Union (1-3) and New Paltz (0-5) on Saturday afternoon from the Wildcat Center.
Clark finished the JWU Invitational 3-0 after beating JWU last night 3-1 and knocked off Union 3-0 and New Paltz 3-1 today.

Match vs. New Paltz
- New Paltz got out to an early 10-7 lead in the first set, but sophomore Layne Stevens recorded a pair of kills and senior Sophia Torino recorded a service ace as the Cougars tied it up at 11 and after falling back behind 20-15, Clark rattled off 10 straight points led by three kills from sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Llano as the red and white took the first set 25-20.
- After a competitive second set in which Clark fell 25-23, the Cougars jumped out to an early 12-6 lead sparked by three kills from sophomore Victoria Pastor and service aces from junior Claudia Rivera and first-year Gabi Acevedo Perez before the red and white ended the set on a 13-8 run that saw the final two points come from junior Claudia Rivera kills as Clark won 25-14 and went up 2-1 in the match.
- Both teams traded points early in the fourth set as New Paltz led 9-8, but Rivera took over during the next stretch as she recorded three kills to put Clark up 17-12 and the Cougars scored the final eight points they needed as Pastor emphatically killed the final two points from Torino as Clark won the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
- Pastor led the team with 14 kills in the match, while Rivera added 11 and Scherrer del Llano recorded nine on a team-high 31 total attacks.
- Torino registered 35 total assists in the contest to go along with three service aces.
- Senior Marimo Oka led the team with 16 digs.
What's Next
Clark will play its home opener on Wednesday, September 8 when they welcome UMass Dartmouth to the Kneller Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
