Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (5-0) played its home opener on Wednesday night and beat UMass Dartmouth (1-2) by a 3-1 margin in four back-and-forth sets from a packed Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Clark got out to an early 10-4 lead sparked by a pair of kills and a pair of service aces from junior Claudia Rivera and extended its lead to 20-15 with a kill from sophomore Victoria Pastor and a service ace from first-year Gabi Acevedo Perez before taking the set 25-20 with the final point coming from Rivera.
- The Cougars fell behind early in the second set, but rallied to take a 10-9 lead after kills from sophomore Sheyenne Williams and two from Rivera, the score was then tied 16-16, but the Corsairs ended the set on a 9-6 run to win the second set 25-22.
- Both teams traded points early in the third as the set was tied 10-10 early highlighted by kills from Williams and Pastor, before the Cougars went on an 8-4 run sparked by four kills, and ended the set on a 7-5 run in which sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Llano recorded two kills and Clark took the third 25-19.
- Clark got out to a 10-7 lead in the fourth set led by three kills and a service ace from senior Margarita Perez-Maza and then went up 15-9 led by a pair of kills from Rivera and one from sophomore Camille Flurry.
- UMass Dartmouth came back to tie the fourth set at 18-18 and went up 21-19, but the Cougars rallied with seven of the next 10 points with four kills coming from Rivera, two from Perez-Maza, and one from Flurry on the final point to clinch the 26-24 set win and 3-1 overall win.
