Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark men's basketball team (14-2, 3-2 NEWMAC) traveled across town in a NEWMAC fixture and battled until the end, but fell 74-66 to WPI (13-1, 5-0 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from the Harrington Auditorium.
How it Happened
- WPI opened the game with a 12-7 lead despite a three-pointer from sophomore Mikey O'Brien and a pair of free throws from sophomore Bruce Saintilus and first-year Isaiah Taylor and two more Taylor free throws got Clark within three at 12-9 with 12:05 left in the first half.
- Graduate student Matthew Waggett netted the next five points with a triple and a layup to pull within two before WPI pushed the lead to nine and first-year Kyle Jackson brought the Cougars back within six at 25-19 with 4:10 remaining.
- Taylor hit a jumper and a Saintilus and-one layup pulled Clark within four at 29-25 and a Taylor three got the Cougars within one before WPI hit a shot before the half and led 31-28.
- WPI opened the second half on a 6-0 run that was ended by a sophomore Kolby Randolph layup and an O'Brien three got Clark within six at 42-36 with 14:36 to go.
- The Engineers then went on a 13-3 run, with a three coming from Taylor, but Clark responded with a bucket from graduate student Tyler Davern and four points from Saintilus to get back within 11 at 59-46 with 8:13 remaining.
- Taylor then scored four of Clark's next six points, but WPI still held 68-52 lead, but a Jackson three-pointer got the Cougars back within 11 at 68-57 with 1:33 to go.
- Jackson scored four points and Saintilus added three points down the stretch, but the Engineers came away with a 74-66 victory.
