Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (6-7) traveled to Nichols (5-8) and battled with the Bison for 80 plus minutes and came away with a thrilling 3-2 shootout win on Tuesday night from Vendetti Field.
How it Happened
- First-year Loren Root recorded her first save of the contest in the fifth minute before Taylor Breen gave Nichols a 1-0 lead off a pass from Dana Edwards.
- Junior Greer McCarty nearly tied the game in the eighth minute with a shot on target, but Sophia Venable recorded a save.
- Root then stopped back-to-back shots from Sam Ahaesy in the 10th minute before graduate student Kimberlie Asseng had her shot saved on the next possession.
- Asseng and McCarty opened the second quarter with shots on goal that were stopped before the Cougars tied the game up at 1-1 on a shot from junior Rachael Romain right before the half off a pass across the top of the circle from graduate student Erin Hynes.
- McCarty pushed the Clark lead to 2-1 in the 33rd minute as she beat the Bison's defense on a fast break and beat Venable.
- Romain fired two more shots on target in the 37th minute and first-years Alison Kopec and Ciaran Cubbage had shots saved at the end of the third quarter as the game remained 2-1.
- Senior Abbe Cravinho and Romain each had shots saved to begin the fourth quarter and Root again recorded a save in the 50th minute.
- The Bison tied the game with 34 seconds to go on a shot from Ahaesy as the game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation.
- In the first overtime, Cubbage and Romain each put two shots on goal as the Cougars outshot Nichols in the first overtime, but Venable came up with five saves.
- In the second overtime, neither team was able to get a shot on target as both defenses set the tone.
- In the shootout, Root recorded four saves and Kopec and graduate student Sydney Lamothe both made their penalty shootout shots as Clark won 2-0 in shootouts and 3-2 in the game.
