Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (6-9, 1-6 NEWMAC) traveled across town to take on WPI (8-6, 5-1 NEWMAC) in a NEWMAC clash and fell 5-1 to the Engineers on Tuesday afternoon from H. Carr Field.
How it Happened
- First-year Loren Root kept the Cougars in the game early as she recorded five saves within the first six minutes of play, which was capped off by a pair of saves on shots from WPI's Eliza Dutton.
- Root recorded two more saves in the 12th minute as the two teams ended the first quarter tied 0-0.
- Graduate student Kimberlie Asseng earned a pair of penalty corners to open the second quarter and Asseng fired a shot on goal that was saved in the 17th minute.
- After two more saves from Root, WPI got on the board with a goal from Lauren Dishong off a feed from Lauren Meinhold to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead at the half.
- Arie Lang pushed the WPI lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute and senior Abbe Cravinho nearly cut the deficit in half with a shot on goal on the following possession that was saved by Nini Acquista.
- Rachel Drasser pushed the Engineer lead to 3-0, but on the next possession first-year Ciaran Cubbage put Clark on the board to make it a 3-1 game.
- Root opened the fourth quarter with a pair of saves and made five saves in total in the fourth, but WPI came away with a 5-1 victory.
