Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark women's soccer (10-4-2, 6-1-2 NEWMAC) came away with a thrilling 2-1 win over Springfield (8-5-1, 6-3-0 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from Granger Field. Senior Siobhan Lounsbury put the ball into the back of the net off a rebound in the 88th minute to help propel the Cougars to a 2-1 victory.
With the victory, Clark jumped into second place in the NEWMAC standings with 20 points and clinched a home game in the NEWMAC Playoffs.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Anabella White recorded a pair of early saves on shots from Kaitlyn Suller in the fourth and seventh minute to keep the match tied at 0-0.
- White posted another save in the 13th minute and 17th minute on Pride shots, but the Cougars offense responded with a shot from first-year Gabriella Herivaux from the right side of the pitch that was saved by A. Harper in the 23rd minute.
- Lounsbury created a dangerous chance in the 31st minute when she dribbled down the right side of the pitch and had the goalie knock the ball away to keep the match tied.
- Sophomore Cassandra Trevino serviced in a corner in the 33rd minute that found the head of graduate student Jamie Joseph and Joseph had the keeper beat, but Madison Daly came away with a defensive save as the teams entered the half tied at 0-0.
- White opened the second half with a save in the 54th minute and in the 62nd minute, Lounsbury drew a penalty in the 62nd minute.
- Senior Emma Tziachris stepped up to the penalty circle and put her kick by the goalie to give Clark a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute.
- After another White save, the Pride tied the game at 1-1 on a shot from Kaleigh Dale and Springfield nearly pushed the lead to 2-1 with a shot from Suller that hit the post.
- Herivaux got in behind the defense in the 78th minute and had her shot saved by Harper.
- Trevino then serviced in another corner that found the head of Joseph and Harper got a piece of the ball and Lounsbury found the back of the net on the rebound in the 88th minute to propel Clark to a thrilling 2-1 win.
