Box Score NORTON, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (5-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) took Wheaton (3-9, 1-3 NEWMAC) to overtime, but were edged 3-2 by the Lyons on Saturday afternoon from Diane Nordin Field.
How it Happened
- Senior Abbe Cravinho nearly gave Clark a 1-0 lead in the third minute, but Emma Lapreziosa registered a save and graduate student Kimberlie Asseng had a shot saved in the 10th minute.
- Junior Greer McCarty was able to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge in the 15th minute with a shot that beat Lapreziosa.
- First-year Loren Root recorded a save on a shot attempt from Gabby Monfredo and McCarty pushed Clark's lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute of action with a shot off a pass from first-year Ciaran Cubbage.
- Wheaton cut into the lead with a goal from Macey Poitras-Cote in the 26th minute and McCarty nearly scored a hat trick in the 28th minute, but Lapreziosa recorded a save on the shot as Clark held a 2-1 lead at the half.
- Root recorded four saves in the third quarter with two shots on goal coming consecutively in the 34th and 38th minutes as the Cougars took a 2-1 lead into the fourth quarter.
- The Lyons tied the game at 2-2 in the 49th minute on a shot from Lydia Gaudreau and junior Rachael Romain nearly won the game for Clark in the 52nd minute, but had her shot saved as the teams went to overtime tied 2-2.
- Root recorded a breakaway save against Gaudreau, but the Lyons won the game in the 69th minute on a shot from Anda Brown to win 3-2.
