Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. – No. 7 Clark volleyball (12-16) traveled to No. 2 Babson (20-7) for a NEWMAC Quarterfinal game on Tuesday night and from Staake Gymnasium and battled with the Beavers for four sets, but fell 3-1.
Clark fell 25-21 in the first set, won the second set 25-20, fell 25-19 in the third set, and in the final set fell 25-22.
How it Happened
- Clark took an early 8-5 lead in the first set sparked by service aces from sophomore Yvanna Torres and senior Claudia Rivera as well as a kill from junior Camille Flurry.
- The Cougars extended the advantage to 18-15 with kills from graduate student Margarita Perez Maza and Rivera and held a 20-19 lead off a Beaver service error, but Babson ended the set on a 6-1 run to win the set 25-21.
- Clark took a 10-8 lead in the second set led by two kills from both Flurry and junior Victoria Pastor, but the Beavers would take a 16-13 edge in the set.
- Clark battled back and took the second set 25-20 sparked by two kills from Pastor and junior Sofia Scherrer del Llano, with the 25th point of the set coming off an attack error by the Beavers.
- Babson held a 10-7 lead in the third set despite two kills from senior Cameron Gill and Pastor later went on a 3-0 run of her own with three consecutive kills to make it a 19-16 game with the Beavers still in the lead.
- The Beavers ended the set on a 6-3 run led by two kills from Lauren Griffin as Babson won the set 25-19.
- Clark rallied back in the fourth set to take an 11-5 lead sparked by three kills and a service ace from Gill as well as a Scherrer del Llano kill and the lead was extended to 15-11 with a block from Rivera and junior Sheyenne Williams.
- The teams then battled down the stretch as Clark held a 19-18 lead in the fourth set and extended the lead to 21-19 with a block from Scherrer del Llano and Williams, but the Beavers scored six of the next seven points to come away with a 25-22 win.
